The holidays can be really stressful for some kids, who all they think about is whether they'll get what they asked for. However, once in a blue moon, there's that special kid, whose only want is to see his parents open the gift he has carefully selected for them. Truly inspirational. Who doesn't want a kid like this one!

Crazy about stripes
Stripes are that fashion staple that never ceases to be boring. It gives our wardrobes and our homes that crisp, versatile lift, and they never fall out of fashion. Plus they are turning up everywhere. I'm swooning over these:

Motherhood
I used to think Angelina Jolie was showing extremism when she kept increasing the size of her family. Now, I quietly understand. Being a mom is the most wonderful feeling in the world.

Eating solids and more
Our baby daughter started eating solids finally! She loves eating scrumptious sweet potatoes, green beans, avocados, pears and apples, bananas and carrots. But the other day she became constipated. I read it's sometimes common for babies to pass hard stools when making the transition to solids. I hope this doesn't become habit. Poor Emilu was so uncomfortable, I saw her struggling. When it was all over she laughed and wanted to play with the remote control (her favorite toy).
Her new thing is to drag herself with her tummy to reach for toys. I guess this is the precursor to crawling. Yay, so excited. I, sometimes, cannot believe she's my daughter.
She's also doing the following:

She's also doing the following:
- Understands the word "no"
- Imitates some of the sounds we make
- Rolls over from tummy to back, and vice-versa
- Looks down when we call Piki, our dog
- Opens her mouth when she sees me chewing something
- {Now this one took us by surprise} Grabs the remote with one hand and attempts to point it to the TV
- Responds to sounds by turning her head in the direction where they're coming from, such as the mail getting dropped through the mail-hole in the door.
- {This one makes me soft inside}Throws her arms at me when she wants me.

A Thanksgiving Tale
I confess I'm kind of excited about celebrating Thanksgiving. For the first time, I actually look forward to it. Maybe because it will be our first with our new baby daughter, Emilu. My husband is a second generation American, so his parents adopted this holiday. For me Thanksgiving was as abstract as a Picasso' s painting. Now it will be a holiday my daughter will celebrate and I better start creating memories for her.
While many of you celebrate this holiday in style with all the stops and whistles, for my family (mom and pops and brother) this holiday has a more quiet meaning. One Thanksgiving Day morning, 30 years ago, back in the DR my mom was feeding my newborn baby brother, who suffered from choking syndrome, when he suddenly stopped breathing. She ran out the door with the baby in arms, and rushed to my grandmother's house (who lived across the street) screaming and in panic. The baby was turning blue, my grandmother took him and ran to get a doctor, a neighbor who lived a block from my grandmother's. He was the owner of the local baseball team, and was having a Thanksgiving luncheon in honor of the American baseball players playing the winter league that year.
My mother's OBGYN was there too. He had delivered my baby brother, and together they took the baby to his clinic. They drove like maniacs across town. When they arrived at the clinic, they gave him oxygen and other things, and he started breathing again. The joke was he had never delivered the same baby twice, until that moment. The whole ordeal lasted about 20 min. enough to cause brain injury. Everyday she prayed and watched him closely. But he turned out fine. We give thanks for that. Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate our blessings. What are you thankful for?

And the winner is...
I won a giveaway over at The Embellished Life. A set of Paul Labrecque Luxury Hair Care Volume collection, which included a shampoo, leave-in conditioner and a hold spray. I was happy to learn it was not tested on animals, which is huge on my list, and then when I tried it, oh I was so pleasantly surprised. I get volume without feeling like I have a lot of product in my hair. And it's got that chic salon smell. Thanks Jessica for this great giveaway, I feel totally spoiled now.

My husband and I are staying put this year. It will be our first holiday with Emilu. By then, she will be well established with eating mashed food and it will be tons of fun to see her at the table. Have a Lovely Weekend
It's been raining here in DC. Hopefully it will quit this weekend. Today, my husband gets back from a business trip to Santo Domingo. A job with the U.S. Embassy down there. So, I know he ate and slept well, and even had some pool time. Having him back means I get to resume some of the things I haven't been able to finish. I also need some rest. Only two weeks until Thanksgiving! I {maybe}want to cook a Thanksgiving dinner. As a vegetarian I grieve the fate of the meat that ends up in people's holiday plates. To each their own is my philosophy; but this year, I find myself wanting to cook a bird. Principle aside, I love the idea of serving my husband a true Thanksgiving dinner, especially when we won't be able to share in this holiday with his family (they are big on Thanksgiving; my family, on the contrary, is big on Christmas- so it works out fine) So let's see what happens...
Emilu started eating solids a couple of days ago. I will be snapping a few pictures of her soon. I want to say thank you for stopping by this week. It makes my day to see my blog getting attention. I love to visit other people's blogs and know the heart and time that goes into each post. I hope you readers have a lovely weekend. Here are some fabulous links I hope you like. Tantrums: A Dialogue
My daughter is only 6 months old and she's already having tantrums. Many of them. For no reason. When I sit her in the play pen. When I put her in the stroller. When I lean her back a little for her bottle feeding. You know that moment, when you are dressing them and you are putting their arms through the sleeve, that moment she hates. She throws a fit. Is there any reason to feel this could be a game changer? Can I be raising an impertinent child who has tantrums just to test me? Maybe I'm putting too much into this. But, I can't help but wonder...
Here she is right at the beginning of a tantrum wave. I just happened to be using the phone. If you've been reading this blog, you know by now that Emilu has been a high needs baby since her newborn days. Maybe it's time for me to surrender, and stop over-analyzing her moods. I shall have to embrace that my daughter is special. In her own little world, I'm special too. It's the reason why she's so honest and open about her feelings. She wants me to accept that.
And I'm slowly learning . I'm discovering her intensity, her resolute ways. And one day she'll discover mine.. We are beginning to understand each other, hear each other out. This is the beginning of a lifelong dialogue. This is ground zero for us both.

Have a Blissful Weekend
Hello my lovely readers. The weekend is here and with it a new opportunity to try the things we have been planning the whole week. You know, it's the little things that make us happy, right? A cup of hot chocolate when you're craving something warm and sweet, the way the sunlight illuminates an area of the house that usually remains dull, and a comment, that goes a long way. This week has been like this for me and I'm thankful for it. What are your plans this weekend? Someone pointed out that Christmas is less than two months away. Are you hopeful for the holidays? This is the most special time of the year for me. It means family, family and family. These are the links that have made an impression on me this week. Enjoy!
