Capital biking

I was never one to really love biking.  You might gasp, but the truth is that I was more into tomboy sports as a kid, especially those that required balls.  Touchball, baseball, kickball, throwball, you name it.  And when we didn't have a ball, we would make one up.  With duct tape, packing tape, newspaper and gift wrapping tape.

I now I live in city where everyone bikes everywhere.  The Capital Bikeshare program is a hit, and one of the{stupid} reasons why they kicked out our last Mayor (this was costly mistake!)  But now, we are all thinking how did this city managed without bikes before?  The truth is that our biking program is one of the most successful in the country.  Mayor Fenty smartly allocated resources for infrastructure like permanent bike lanes and biking protocols for riders.

And to think that many opposed this program as costly, unnecessary, and yes, elitist.  I love bikes, and just wish I was brave enough to ride them.

Spring shoes at Target

So I want to Target yesterday to buy some weekly products and I happened to go to the shoes section, which I rarely do, and I found some really nice looking shoes, perfect for Spring and very nice for your pockets. I'm actually a flats kind of gal, but sometimes the right kind of wedge or strappy sandal comes along, and I have to look (and sometimes shop)

Fresh flowers

I love fresh flowers, I got these on Sunday and they are still pretty intact. The problem is I forgot to ask what type of flower it was, and now I'm trying to identify them in the internet with no luck. They remind me of peonies, but in a smaller version. Do you know the name of this flower?

Women who make beautiful things

I came across this jewelry shop while watching bits of the Today showing the other day.  Kathy Lee was wearing a beaded necklace, which she revealed was made by a group of Ugandan women.  Now that I'm DIYing bracelets and other jewelry pieces, I was intrigued by their work.

The company is called Thirty One Bits and their mission is simple, to empower women to rise above poverty, thanks to these women, who made it possible. Did I mentioned the beads are made of paper!
I have my eyes on a couple of bracelets for this Summer. Would you buy from these amazing women? Mother's Day is a good excuse to get a beautiful necklace, and you will be helping a worthy cause.

Three darling necklaces

Anthropologie has always captivated my imagination. Their furniture and home accents have always been out of this world. But lately, so is their clothing and jewelry lines, and I have my eyes on these little darlings, and they are perfect for outdoor brunches and afternoon matinees.
Spring days and Summer nights never seemed more stylish. What are your favorite pieces of jewelry this Spring?

Our weekend in pictures

Hi friends! I hope you all had a nice weekend. We had a great one too. I was busy wrapping some gifts for my husband to take to Miami.  We ran errands, had lunch, even Piki got some nice sunny, long walks, and we also watched Ides of March. (it was so-so). This week I have a few fun posts planned, I hope you all like. I have been having trouble with the LinkWithin plugin, ever since I switched domains. They never really updated my new address, and it looks I'm not the only one either. I'm disappointed because the plugin is a really attractive, no-cost way to attract more readers. So I have signed up with an alternative, called NRelate, but it seems they take forever to build the plugin to your site. So, please excuse my bare posts with no related thumbnails at the bottom, I'm diligently working on fixing this.

I also baked chocolate cupcakes and bought a few craft materials to finish a project (for the dining room bunting), which I can't wait to show off here, and stopped at one of my favorite home goods shops, World Market, to pick up some gifts.  How about you?  Did anything fun?

Cherry blossoms in our neighborhood

Did you know is the 100th anniversary of the cherry blossom trees around the tidal basin in the Mall? The trees were a gift from the Japanese government to the US government as a gift of "growing friendship." Every year we watch them spring out and delightfully enjoy their presence around the city.  Are there any cherry blossoms around your neighborhood?

Color Me Wednesdays: Wicker & Rattan chairs

With Spring around the corner, I'm already salivating over rattan painted chairs to complement my patio.  Right now my patio furniture is stored in a closet and consists of a black wooden bench with a white and green cushion, and a small bistro set of two chairs and a table.   I will be in the lookout for wicker or rattan chairs on yard sales or shops to bring to our patio.

In the meantime, I have the perfect eye candy until I can get my hands on something special.  I found these over several websites.  Sorry if I don't tag everything.
