Fill in the blank Fridays

It's Fill in the Blank Friday!. Here are my answers to this week's questions:

1. The best day of the week is  Friday because is the precursor to the weekend.  My husband and I usually start off our weekend with a Friday Night Date that includes dinner out somewhere and then a DVD at home.

2. My favorite meal of the day is lunch because I wait for my husband to come from the office and we both have a sandwich, salad and chips in the comfort of our own home. Sometimes I will surprise him with home-made fries. And we always finish with an espresso and a small cookie to sweeten things up. Ahhh the life!

3. This weekend we plan on visiting a few baby stores to complete our baby gear shopping.

4. Never in my life have I been able to drink coffee with milk or cream.  I am an espresso or coffee-only kind of girl.

5. The only thing better than being at home is being at home back in Miami in my parents' house enjoying a family get-together.

6. I could really do with some time at home starting this Friday's possible government shutdown, however, I couldn't deal with the lack of pay.  We need the money.

7. The most recent thing I bought myself was a pair of wedge sandals in HauteLook, but is looking like I won't get my order because the website didn't stock enough of the merchandise.  Read my rant here.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

Fill in the Blank Fridays!

It's Friday!  And another issue of Fill in the Blank Friday is just what I need to kick off the weekend.  Here in DC we were promised mostly clear skies and nice cool temperatures.  I sure hope they are right!

1.   I am most grateful in life for my health and my family.  For the opportunity to pursue my dreams and for the chance to love and be loved in return.  I'm also grateful for the gift of motherhood.

2.  Today I feel a bit hormonal and vulnerable.  I'm almost 33 weeks pregnant and a rush of emotions is running through my body.  Are we ready?

3.  I'm currently reading   The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy.  It's about a family's history of redemption and love.

4.  The last thing I bought for Emilu were two summer dresses in seersucker fabric, one lavender, the other pale yellow.  I can't wait to see her in them. It's funny how my shopping urges have shifted from shopping for myself to shopping for our daughter.

5.  Today I'm missing my mother and the smell of our old gardenia bush in the backyard of our old Miami home.  Spring is about to arrive and the smell of flowers is something I'm looking forward to and of course, the cherry blossoms.

6.  I'm dreaming of  my daughter and a trip to Paris.  Last night we saw an episode of House Hunters in HGTV and the featured city was Paris.  I would love to go there.  I have never been.
7.  The thing I underestimate most is my instinct. I have a pretty good feel of things and their nature, but I sometimes lack the instant confidence to turn situations to my advantage (without hurting anyone).  I should learn to trust my instinct more.

Happy weekend.  Peace and Love!

Fill in the Blank Fridays!

Fill in the Blank Friday is here!  Again, I'm following Liz' s lead here.  You can link up to her at Portland to Peonies.

1.   I am currently obsessed with updating every aspect of my apt.  We have remade our bedroom to fit a nursery nook, and the living is next.  I'm thinking deep hues of yellow and navy blue with a nautical industrial twist. Pictures coming soon!

2.  Today I am hopeful because of many reasons. I hope my prayers are answered regarding a loved one who's sick.  I hope the weekend is both productive and restful, and finally I hope my husband's job offer comes through.  We earnestly need it.

3.  The age I am is    33    and the age I feel is 33.  I feel wiser and bolder with each passing year.  In fact, one of the many permanent changes in me during this pregnancy is an awaken gutsyness.

4.  My favorite place is   being at home with my husband, my dog and my things.  And soon with our new daughter.  I can't wait to spruce up the patio for spring and summer.

5.  Something I have been procrastinating is  revising my short stories.  They need me and I have been away too long.  When things settle down in my head, I will go back to them.

6.  The last thing I purchased was the Bummies Organic Cloth Diapering starter kit.  Can't wait to get them in the mail!!
7.  The thing I love most about my home is the cozy feeling as you walk in.  It's tiny, but inviting and it's located in one of the best neighborhoods in the city, perfect for raising little Emilu, and that is priceless! Location, location, location.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend.  Peace and love.

Fill in the Blank Friday

Happy fill in the blank Friday! The weekend is full of possibilities.  Seize them! This new blog post idea is from the blog From Portland to Peonies. Enjoy!

1.  I am so blessed and fortunate to be able to carry a child and give our family a new dimension and deeper love.

2.  The bravest thing I've ever done was leave the cozy confines of my hometown and close family in Miami, and come make something of myself, away from family, in Washington, DC.

3.  I feel prettiest when I have been attentive to my beauty needs, which include manicure, pedicure and wax. Only then I know how to bare all.  And if there is a new outfit I wear on my way to dinner with hubby, that complements it all.

4.  Something that keeps me awake at night is all the day's images of cruelty and neglect of animals.  I'm psychologically committed to the well being of animals.

5.  My favorite activity in the entire world is besides reading a great work of literature, to go shopping or bargain hunt for home goods.

6.  The way to my heart is definitely enjoying the things I enjoy and seeing value in them.  A beautiful home, a good movie, a nice family dinner, seeing a dog wag his tail, a compassionate answer or just simply the right word at the right time.

7.  I would like to one day publish a manuscript of fiction, and have it be well received.

Causal Fridays

This post is called a Day in the Life.  I got this idea from another blogger and thought it would be nice if I can speak about my day in images.  You should try it, it's fun.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.  I have fruit cravings now that I'm pregnant.  I stuff myself with mangoes, pineapple when I can find it, and plenty of apples.  I usually have two during the day.
I don't leave my house without a little dab of foundation and primer.  I love Laura Mercier products.  They are gentle and cruelty-free and they do wonders without adding lines and toxic chemicals to your skin.

Of course, I ride the metro everyday, so this is part of my everyday life.

I love sleeping in.  Now that I'm pregnant, I feel more tired than usual and I usually stay in bed longer in the morning.

Cooking is part of my life.  I cook almost every weekday for my husband and I.  And this is my most prized possession.  A copper skillet.

With the frigid temperatures we have been experiencing in this early Winter. I don't leave the house without my legwarmer.

And a scarf to keep me warm.

I read a little bit everyday.  If I don't, I feel handicapped and restless. I always carry my current selection with me.  Books are priceless to me.

I carry my daughter everyday.  She is my other priceless possession.

A small shot of espresso keeps me jolted and focused.  Plus I love the taste.

I get my decor fix by visiting ApartmentTherapy and other websites.

Nesting is also part of my daily life.  I have tons of ideas and a tight budget to create the perfect nursery/bedroom for us.

My favorite TV show of all time:  Law and Order: SVU.  It's only on three days a week, so I never miss it.

This clean and lemony scent from Versace feels my days with freshness.
